CHAPTER 6

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION AND COUNTRY-BY-COUNTRY ASSESSMENT

INTRODUCTION

The preceding chapters of this report have presented overall findings and documented trends, based on the accumulation of information from the individual site visits that were conducted during the study. As has been shown, there are global trends in the satellite communications industry, and there is, in fact, a globalization of the industry, both in terms of the increasingly international arrangements among suppliers and service providers, and in the plans and ambitions of the users of communications services. This said, it is also true that there are national and regional trends that are sufficiently different, one from another, to deserve attention. This chapter examines such regional and national differences, in terms of technological capabilities and potential business opportunities and aspirations.
