Dr. Karbhari received his PhD from the University of Delaware in 1991 for his research on composites mechanics and processing. He was an assistant professor at the University of Delaware, Department of Civil Engineering/Center for Composite Materials from 1991 through 1995, when he joined the faculty at University of California, San Diego. His primary research areas include infrastructure renewal and use of composites in infrastructure, manufacturing and processing science of composites, mechanics of composites, interphases in composites and dissimilar materials, fracture and damage mechanics, and materials durability. He has published over 180 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings.
Dr. Karbhari was awarded the first Charles Pankow award for innovative design by the Civil Engineering Research Foundation (CERF) in 1996, is a 1997 awardee of a CAREER award from the National Science Foundation, and currently is a recipient of a Powell Faculty Fellowship at UCSD. He serves on the editorial board of a number of journals, and serves on a number of national-level committees including those related to ASCE and CERF.
