Position: Web and IT Assistant

Location: NNCO. Arlington, VA.

Assist in website maintenance and IT support for the National Nanotechnology Coordination Office (NNCO).  NNCO provides staff support to the Nanoscale Science, Engineering, and Technology (NSET) Subcommittee of the National Science and Technology Council.  The NSET Subcommittee coordinates the National Nanotechnology Initiative.  WTEC, Inc. provides on-site professional staff for the NNCO.

  • Assist in maintaining and updating public website, www.nano.gov, including day-to-day content management of the website: posting new content, updating existing content, retiring outdated content and obsolete links or webpages, spell-checking and error-checking all content before and after posting, and troubleshooting technical bugs and other routine problems.
  • Design templates for enewsletters, and assist communications staff in sending out broadcast emails.
  • Write up monthly summaries of web analytics for NNCO Director and communications staff; monitor search engine optimization trends.
  • Provide support for private websites. Build/Assist with  internal websites as needed.
  • Keep current on web trends such as RSS, wikis, blogs, forums, podcasts etc. and make recommendations.
  • Assist in preparing reports for publication.
  • Assist in updating layout and information architecture of website
  • Assist in migrating current content to updated website
  • Provide help desk support for MS Office and graphics and multimedia design programs to other users
  • Assist NNCO staff in obtaining NSF IT help desk support for login and network-related service request and problems.
  • Provide audio-visual support for meetings, including laptop, LCD project and conference phone set up and removal.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Web skills should include proven ability to create webpages using HTML and CSS.
  • Experience with Dreamweaver preferred. Experience with InDesign desirable.
  • Strong background in Word and Power Point; experience with other Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • Experience with graphics and multimedia design tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Willingness to learn basic systems administration for supporting public and private websites.
  • Familiarity with basic command-line administration for Linux/Unix and plus.
  • Famliarity with content management software, such as Drupal and Jumla, and wiki software a plus.
  • Opportunity for acquiring additional skills.

Position: Communications Manager

Location: NNCO. Arlington, VA.

WTEC is hiring a Communications Manager to work full-time on assignment to the National Nanotechnology Coordination Office (NNCO).  NNCO provides staff support for the U.S. Government’s National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI), and serves as the NNI’s central point of contact for the public, the press, and Congress.

Incumbent holds responsibilities for advising the NNCO Director and the WTEC Chief of Staff at NNCO on communications planning and operations; contributes to drafting and review of Congressional testimony and other public documents; oversees website content and appearance; serves as point of contact for media on risk communications, media relations (including interaction with reporters and planning activities, such as media roundtables), and public outreach and engagement, particularly with respect to issues of concern to the general public such as environmental, health, and safety research and ethical, legal, and other social implications of nanotechnology.  May be asked to provide staff support for interagency working group(s) involved in coordinating the NNI, e.g., in particular those that address public engagement and communications issues.  The position is full time with a competitive salary and excellent benefits.  For more information see http://nano.gov and http://wtec.org.  Contact Faith Wang at WTEC (717-299-7130, fwang@wtec.org) for more information.
